Patrol deputies responded to the scene with emergency lights and sirens. Upon arrival, they immediately began providing life-saving medical aid to the victim, 60-year-old Eric Brandon Udall. Deputies continued rendering aid until relieved by emergency medical personnel. Udall was transported to Adventist Health Sonora, where he was later pronounced deceased.
Due to the nature of the incident, Sheriff's Office detectives responded to assume the investigation and process the crime scene. Through interviews with witnesses and evidence collected at the scene, investigators identified 55-year-old Timothy Allen Boling as the suspect. Boling fled the area immediately following the shooting.
Deputies and detectives worked throughout the night pursuing investigative leads and searching for Boling. Based on the investigation, detectives believe the incident began as a physical altercation and subsequently escalated into a shooting.
On the morning of June 29, 2026, the Tuolumne County Sheriff's Office released a social media post identifying Boling as the homicide suspect. Shortly afterward, several community members contacted the Sheriff's Office to report seeing him in the downtown Columbia area and within Columbia State Historic Park.
As patrol deputies responded to the area, they were advised that a California State Parks Law Enforcement Officer had located Boling and was holding him at gunpoint. Tuolumne County Sheriff's Office personnel arrived moments later and met with State Parks Officers who had safely taken Boling into custody without incident.
Boling was transported to the Dambacher Detention Center on Monday afternoon, where he was booked on a charge of Penal Code section 187(a) – Murder.
Boling is a convicted felon and is legally prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition. At the time of this incident, he was also under Post Release Community Supervision (PRCS).
The Tuolumne County Sheriff's Office would like to thank our community for its patience and understanding throughout this investigation. We are especially grateful to the community members who promptly reported sightings of Boling after our public notification.
