July 9, 2026 - SACRAMENTO – Governor Gavin Newsom has issued a proclamation declaring July 6-10, 2026, as “California Conservation Corps Week” in the State of California.
The text of the proclamation can be found below:
PROCLAMATION
Since 1976, the California Conservation Corps has given young adults a chance to serve something larger than themselves. For 50 years, tens of thousands of youths have risen to the challenge of protecting the landscapes and resources that make California so unique. From the redwoods to coastline, from the deserts to the mountains, Corpsmembers have volunteered over 86 million hours of service in habitat restoration, forestry, fisheries, wildland firefighting, trail maintenance, renewable energy and construction, emergency response, and more.
The Corps’ impact goes beyond any project; it goes beyond any county line. Each pathway in the Corps offers opportunities to earn and learn, to build a meaningful career, and a way to connect with nature and their communities. Internships and workforce partnerships connect Corpsmembers to careers as firefighters, watershed stewards, trail workers, land managers, renewable energy technicians, and environmental educators. Many return to the California Conservation Corps as staff, training the next generation of young adults who will do the same.
A critical part of its work to protect the land and support communities throughout California, grants provided by the Nature-Based Solutions Tribal Corps program support California Native American tribes in establishing their own tribal corps. While exploring educational and career pathways, tribal Corpsmembers work on critical natural resource projects that often focus on the implementation of Traditional Ecological Knowledge practices and stewardship on ancestral lands. The state is proud to partner with Tribal Corps to explore projects aligned with the state’s core climate and biodiversity strategies,
Nearly 50 years after Governor Jerry Brown signed legislation establishing it, the California Conservation Corps remains the largest and longest-running conservation corps in the nation and has become a model for governments and non-profits throughout the United States and around the world. California Conservation Corps Week honors a legacy of hard work and commitment, of building connections and finding purpose through service to others.
NOW THEREFORE I, GAVIN NEWSOM, Governor of the State of California, do hereby proclaim July 6-10, 2026, as “California Conservation Corps Week.”
IN WITNESS WHEREOF I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Great Seal of the State of California to be affixed this 6th day of July 2026.
