Former TCSO Deputy Passes Away 

August 3, 2026 – Tulare County Sheriff’s Office officials report that Sheriff Boudreaux is saddened to announce the passing of former Tulare County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Herman Ortiz Martinez. He passed away on Friday, July 31, 2026, at the age of 80.

Former Deputy Martinez worked for the Sheriff’s Office for 22 years as a deputy in the jails, in Porterville patrol, S.T.E.P., and as a detective for narcotics and violent crimes. He was also the first resident deputy assigned to the Tule River Indian Reservation. He also served in the US Navy for four years.

He is survived by his sons; Russell and Eric, brothers; Carlos and Ruben, sisters; Yolanda, Ofelia, Corina, Lucia and Selia, seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
