Major Methamphetamine Seizure - 60 Pounds Recovered 

August 5, 2026 – Modesto Police Department officials report that last week, Modesto Police Officers conducted an enforcement stop near Kansas Avenue and southbound Highway 99 with assistance from Officer Garcia Martinez and his K-9 partner. During the stop, a positive K-9 alert led to the discovery of a substantial amount of methamphetamine inside the suspect vehicle. The driver was taken into custody without incident.

Based on evidence recovered during the stop, investigators quickly obtained a search warrant for a related residence. Modesto Narcotics Enforcement Team investigators and detectives from the Property Crimes Unit, along with patrol personnel, safely served the search warrant.

At the conclusion of the incident, the Modesto Police Department seized approximately 60 pounds of methamphetamine, along with firearms, packaging materials, and drug paraphernalia.

This case demonstrates the outstanding teamwork between patrol officers, the K-9 Unit, MNET investigators, and the Property Crimes Unit. Their coordinated efforts removed a significant quantity of dangerous narcotics and illegal firearms from our community.

The following individuals, Michael Randell Haney, 63, of Modesto (driver), and Miguel Salvado Torres Hernandez, 32, of San Jose (passenger), were both arrested and booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center on felony charges of 11378 HS (possession of methamphetamine for sale), 11379 HS (transportation of methamphetamine for sale), and 11370.4(b)(1)(D) HS (possession of more than 20 kilograms of methamphetamine).

This investigation remains ongoing.
