August 9, 2026 - Sierra National Forest officials report the High Sierra Ranger District’s Off Highway Vehicle program has experienced a demanding operational period. Despite significant volunteer contributions, the workload has remained substantial. When faced with critical tasks exceeding the capacity of the core crew and existing volunteers, the program manager acquired additional support.

This past week, Phil and Mindy Mazon, alongside their volunteer team, returned to the High Sierra Ranger District to assist with the Dusy-Ershim trail. This effort builds upon preparatory work initiated last summer by the High Sierra OHV crew and volunteers for a trail section repair. This season, a segment of corduroy was successfully removed and subsequently replaced.

While the process may appear straightforward, its execution involves considerable effort. The work entailed the precise relocation of saturated logs, custom cutting for optimal fit, and the careful placement and securement of these materials.

The District extends its sincere appreciation to the Mazon’s and the Kingsburg 4WD Club for their invaluable assistance on the nationally recognized Dusy-Ershim trail. Their dedication makes all the difference! (Pictures are the Corduroy section before and after).
