Illegal Rooster Fighting Event Shut Down 

August 10, 2026 – Tulare County Sheriff’s Office officials report that on the morning of August 9, Tulare County Sheriff’s Office Porterville Deputies responded to a report of suspicious activity near Avenue 48 and Road 184.

Deputies discovered evidence of an organized rooster-fighting event involving approximately 30 people. Many fled the scene in vehicles as deputies arrived.

During vehicle stops, deputies located:

  • Large amounts of cash
  • Scales used for weighing roosters
  • Leg tags, wager receipts, and raffle tickets
  • Caged roosters

Four individuals were arrested for violations of California Penal Code 597 (animal cruelty).

Deputies also found several deceased roosters and 20–30 live roosters confined in cages. Tulare County Animal Control took custody of the live birds.

Animal fighting is illegal and will be prosecuted. This investigation remains ongoing.
