August 16, 2026 – Fresno County Sheriff’s Office officials report that at around 10:10 A.M. on Saturday, a Parlier Police officer Fresno County Sheriff Issues Water Safety Warning to the Public ...requested back up. He said his patrol car was struck by bullets in the area of Merced and H Streets.

Fresno County Sheriff’s deputies arrived in the area a few minutes later and began looking for the vehicle believed to be involved. A deputy and a Selma Police Officer spotted the suspect in a pickup truck and a pursuit ensued. It ultimately ended just before 10:30 A.M. on Fig Avenue, near Third and Fourth Streets, when the suspect crashed into the fence of Parlier High School. A deputy and a Selma Police officer fired shots at the suspect, striking him multiple times. He received medical aid and was transported to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno, where he is listed in critical condition.

His name is not being released at this time. We can say that he is in his early 50s and law enforcement is familiar with him. We did recover a firearm that was in the suspect’s possession.

There are a total of four law enforcement officers involved in this shooting investigation. Two are from Parlier Police, one is from Selma Police and one is a Fresno County Sheriff’s Deputy. No officers were shot. One Selma officer did injure his arm.

There was a basketball camp taking place inside the gym at the high school when this incident happened. None of the participants were impacted. We found a route for them to get out back to their vehicles.

This marks our department’s second deputy involved shooting this year.
