Update: Search for Missing Hiker
August 25, 2026 – Placer County Sheriff's Office officials report that search efforts for 24-year-old Ian Roberts continued on Monday, with approximately 100 search and rescue personnel in the field working to locate him.
Search crews are utilizing both traditional and fixed-wing drones, while the Placer County Sheriff’s Office Marine Unit is searching the river and shoreline areas.
Ian was last known to be in the Overlook Park area during the mid-morning hours of Friday, August 21. He was reported missing to the Roseville Police Department early Saturday morning, and shortly afterward, his vehicle was located in the Overlook Park parking lot. Investigators determined Ian had gone for a hike in the area Friday and had not returned, prompting the search and rescue response.

Monday’s conditions were challenging, with temperatures were expected to be approximately five degrees warmer than Sunday reaching into the mid-90’s.
