Update: Suspect David Moreno Has Been Arrested
August 31, 2026 – Madera County Sheriff’s Office officials report that detectives were checking a possible address and observed the suspect leave in the same vehicle. We coordinated with the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office, and with the help of their air unit and ground patrol, a vehicle stop was conducted on Mr. Moreno’s vehicle. He was arrested without incident at the location.
Original Information: The Madera County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred late on Sunday morning in the area of Avenue 18 1/2 and Golden State Boulevard.
At approximately 11:30 a.m., our Communications Center received multiple reports of a shooting. Deputies arrived and located a woman who had been shot multiple times.
Deputies immediately began life-saving measures until EMS personnel took over. The victim was transported to a local hospital, where she was later pronounced deceased.
Witnesses reported seeing the suspect flee the area toward California State Route 99 in what was described as a small white SUV, similar to a RAV4.
Detectives have determined that this is a domestic violence related incident.
Suspect has been identified as 51-year-old David Moreno. He was last seen driving a white SUV similar to a RAV4 in an unknown direction. He should be considered armed and dangerous. If you have any information on his whereabouts, please do not approach him and call 9-1-1.
