September 17, 2026 - MARIPOSA, Calif. – Mariposa County Fire is placing a fire engine at the U.S. Forest Service station on Jerseydale Road, restoring an engine to the location and strengthening fire response capabilities in the Jerseydale area.

County Fire has received approval from the U.S. Forest Service to place Engine 429 at the station located at 6440 Jerseydale Road. The engine is a 2002 Ford Type 6 apparatus equipped with a 100-gallon-per-minute pump and a 300-gallon water tank.

The County is targeting October 1 to have the engine in place.

The Jerseydale station is operated by the U.S. Forest Service. A Forest Service engine was previously located at the station but was removed.

The current arrangement to place Engine 429 at the Jerseydale station is an informal agreement between the County and the U.S. Forest Service. The County and Forest Service will need to work together to formalize the arrangement through a future agreement.

The engine placement follows an Insurance Services Office (ISO) evaluation earlier this year that included the availability and distribution of fire department resources in the area. ISO is an independent organization that evaluates fire protection capabilities for the insurance industry. The evaluation raised concerns about fire protection resources in the Jerseydale and Mt. Bullion areas, which can be a factor in how insurance companies assess fire risk and set premiums.

The County is providing ISO with updated information about its fire stations and apparatuses, including the placement of Engine 429 at the Jerseydale station.

The placement of Engine 429 is part of the County’s ongoing efforts to strategically locate fire equipment throughout Mariposa County to maintain response capabilities.
