ICSO K9 Assists in Apprehension of Fleeing Suspect
October 6, 2026 – Inyo County Sheriff’s Office officials report that on October 4, 2026, at approximately 9:41
p.m., Inyo County Sheriff’s Office personnel attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a motorcycle on U.S. Highway 395 south of Big Pine. The rider failed to yield and fled, reaching speeds in excess of 100 mph before turning onto dirt roads. Due to unsafe road and visibility conditions, the pursuit was discontinued.
The motorcycle was later located after it appeared to have crashed into a barbed-wire fence, and the rider had fled on foot. The motorcycle was subsequently determined to have been reported stolen.
With assistance from the Bishop Police Department, Mono County Sheriff’s Office, California Highway Patrol, and Bureau of Land Management, a perimeter was established, and a search of the surrounding area began.
An Inyo County Sheriff’s Office K9 was deployed to track the suspect from the location where the motorcycle was found. The K9 successfully tracked the suspect approximately three-quarters of a mile through the surrounding terrain, leading law enforcement personnel to the suspect, who was taken into custody.
