October 14, 2026 - WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senators Jacky Rosen (D-NV), John Hickenlooper (D-NV), Thom Tillis (R-NC), jacky rosen nevada senator 2025Tim Sheehy (R-MT), and Kevin Cramer (R-ND) have introduced a bipartisan bill to establish a federal strategy on critical minerals. The National Critical Minerals Council Act would establish a National Critical Minerals Council to develop and implement a national strategy on critical minerals and build reliable supply chains at home and abroad. Critical minerals play a key role in powering the majority of modern technological innovations, including vehicles, smartphones, and defense systems. However, China dominates the global market, with the U.S. being 100% reliant on imports for 16 key critical minerals.

“As the world races to acquire and leverage the critical minerals that power the modern economy, the United States needs an efficient and effective plan to secure these important resources,” said Senator Rosen. “I am proud to help introduce this bipartisan bill to ensure the United States has the infrastructure it needs to secure critical minerals and remain at the forefront of modern development.”

Senator Rosen has been a leader in supporting the critical mineral and rare earth industry, both domestically and abroad. Most recently, she helped introduce the Critical Mineral Executive Coordination Act, which would improve diplomatic training and executive branch coordination, creating a more comprehensive strategy in accessing critical minerals and addressing vulnerabilities in global critical mineral supply chains. Senator Rosen also introduced bipartisan legislation to bolster the American critical mineral mining workforce and support the growing industry through the creation of a mining Fulbright exchange program. Last Congress, Senator Rosen helped secure a provision in the bipartisan CHIPS and Science Act to grow the next generation of mining engineers, promote the use of critical minerals, and develop a secure and reliable supply chain.
