A MANDATORY EVACUATION has been issued for the Jerseydale Area. This includes all residence on Jerseydale Rd, Hites Cove Rd and all side roads from Triangle Rd to the end of Hites Cove Rd. Please evacuate as soon as possible. Please drive with caution and watch for responding emergency traffic.

Update: 6:28 P.M. Alert: Ferguson Fire: Fire Advisement Issued for Jerseydale Area
A fire advisement has been issued for the Jerseydale area of Mariposa County. This is NOT an Evacuation Order. This is an advisement only of a potential Evacuation Order should conditions change.
Should this area become under a Mandatory Evacuation Order you will be notified via the Sheriff's Office Emergency Alert System by Text, Email and a Voice Call, the Mariposa County Sheriff's Office Facebook page and door to door communication by Sheriff's Office staff. Also, at that time you will be notified of a Red Cross Shelter and the best routes of travel to safely evacuate your residence.

Update: 6:15 P.M. General Fire Information for El Portal, Yosemite West & Midpines areas.
The Ferguson Fire is continuing to create a lot of smoke. Fire Agencies are actively and directly fighting the fire. The Mariposa County Sheriff’s Office is working in partnership with our Fire suppression partners and we will be communicating with the affected areas if fire activity requires further action. Currently we ask that if you live in the El Portal, Yosemite West or Midpines area, you remain alert and aware of the Ferguson Fire. Should any of those areas become under a Fire Advisement or Mandatory Evacuation you will be notified via the Sheriff's Office Emergency Alert System by Text, Email and a Voice Call, the Mariposa County Sheriff's Office Facebook page and door to door communication by Sheriff's Office staff.
Please watch for responding fire suppression equipment and emergency traffic in and around the fire area.

Update: 1:08 P.M. Per CAL FIRE: It is with deep sadness that CAL FIRE can confirm that this morning while battling the Ferguson Fire on the Sierra National Forest, CAL FIRE Heavy Fire Equipment Operator Braden Varney from the CAL FIRE Madera-Mariposa-Merced Unit was tragically killed. He leaves behind a wife and two small children. Please join us in keeping Braden, his loved ones and his fellow fire family in your thoughts as they grieve this sudden loss.
Update: 1:00 P.M. Per ABC 30: Cal Fire firefighter killed while battling the Ferguson Fire in Mariposa County
Update: 12:50 P.M. Per Yosemite National Park: Visitors planning to travel from Mariposa or Merced to Yosemite National Park are encouraged to use alternative routes and enter the park via Highway 120 or Highway 41. Highway 140 will remain closed until further notice. There is no anticipated time for Highway 140 to reopen.

Update: 9:10 A.M. Per CAL FIRE: #FergusonFire [update] off highway 140 and Hite Cove, Near El Portal (Mariposa County) is now 130 acres and 5% contained. CAL FIRE is no longer in Unified Command with the @Sierra_NF.

Per Sierra National Forest: Ferguson Fire burning on the Sierra National Forest. 130 acres, 5% contained. Located Hwy 140, and the South Fork of the Merced River. Hwy 140 closed from MP 37 to Cedar Lodge, evacuations in effect for Savages, Cedar Lodge and Red Bud Inn.

Update: 6:03 A.M. Scanner: 130 Acres with 5% Containment
July 14, 2018 – A fire has been reported along Highway 140 in the Merced River Canyon near the Ferguson slide area in Mariposa County. The fire was reported on the evening of Friday, July 13 just after 9:00 P.M.
The fire is burning in steep terrain with difficult access for fire crews.
CHP reports Highway 140 is closed at this time, between Yosemite Bug/Briceburg and Cedar Lodge/ El Portal due to the wildfire in the area.

PG&E has cut power to the area at 11:16 P.M., with estimated possible restoration by 5:00 A.M. The outage is reported to affect over 600 customers.
