October 16, 2026 - Sacramento, Calif. — Students looking for assistance with math problems, writing assignments or other difficult homework subjects can now access free online tutoring 24/7 through HomeworkCA.com (external link), the California State Library announced today.

HomeworkCA.com, a new statewide initiative led by the State Library, and powered by Tutor.com (external link), offers homework help in over 250 K-12 subjects, as well as skill-building resources for all California learners.

“A private tutor can cost $60 or more an hour putting student academic support out of reach for many California families,” said California State Librarian Greg Lucas. “It’s even harder now given how expensive so many necessities are these days.

“This new effort by California’s libraries offers access to real tutors in real time with just a few clicks – from home, school or (of course) the library.”

Real-time homework assistance in K-12 subjects can be accessed on HomeworkCA.com and the websites of most public libraries around the state. All students and families need to do is look for HomeworkCA on their library’s digital resources page.

Tutoring is also available in Spanish, Mandarin, French and Vietnamese.

HomeworkCA.com also includes test prep tools, with tutoring in Digital SAT®, ACT® and AP®, along with self-paced courses in Digital SAT® and ACT®.

Adult learners can also access writing assistance, practice tests, and other learning services.

Live homework assistance is available anytime, anywhere from trained tutors by laptop, tablet, or phone. The initiative is supported by the California State Library in partnership with Pacific Library Partnership and funded by the Library Services and Technology Act.

“We are deeply honored to partner with California’s libraries to expand academic support to more students across the state,” said John Calvello, Chief Institutional Officer of Tutor.com. “HomeworkCA.com exemplifies what’s possible when institutions work together to remove barriers to student success. Through this initiative, every California student—wherever they live—now has access to real tutors in real time. Libraries have always been beacons of educational access, and by bringing together our tutoring expertise with the State Library’s reach, we’re ensuring that no student has to choose between getting help and affording it. This is the kind of partnership that changes lives and transforms educational opportunity.”
