Motorcycle Theft Arrest – Lemon Grove 

October 11, 2026 – San Diego County Sheriff's Office officials announce that two people suspected of vehicle theft are San Diego County Sheriff Reports Suspect Killed in Officer ...in custody thanks to the use of Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) technology.

On October 10, 2026, around 10:40 a.m., a patrol deputy assigned to the Rancho San Diego Station received an ALPR camera system alert that a reported stolen motorcycle had entered a Home Depot parking lot in the 7500 block of Broadway in the city of Lemon Grove. Through collaborative efforts with loss prevention specialists and a Sheriff's detective, two people, Roberto Guerra (34) and Lizbeth Montano (26), were identified as having arrived riding the stolen motorcycle. Additionally, Guerra and Montano were observed inside the store concealing items into a bag. Both exited the store without making an attempt to purchase the concealed items.

Deputies arrived as Guerra and Montano approached the stolen motorcycle, donned helmets and prepared to leave. Both were detained without incident. The stolen merchandise was recovered and returned to Home Depot. Guerra and Montano were found to have a criminal history of theft related crimes. Guerra was also found to be on active felony probation.

Guerra was arrested for vehicle theft, possession of a stolen vehicle, petty theft with prior conviction, conspiracy to commit a crime and probation violation. Montano was arrested for possession of a stolen vehicle, petty theft with prior conviction and conspiracy to commit a crime.

Guerra was transported and booked into the San Diego Central Jail. Montano was transported and booked into the Las Colinas Detention and Reentry Facility.

The ALPR camera system continues to be a valuable tool in enhancing public safety and supporting law enforcement efforts to identify, locate, and apprehend dangerous criminal offenders. This case highlights the critical role the system played in apprehending an armed and dangerous suspect who posed a threat to the community.
