CSAM Suspect Arrested

October 9, 2026 – COOL, CA – El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office officials report that on October 1, 2026, Detectives with the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office High-Tech Crimes Unit (HTCU) arrested 28-year-old Stefan Schiopu of Cool, California, following an investigation into the possession of Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM).

HTCU Detectives, who are affiliated with the Sacramento Valley Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force, began the investigation after receiving a CyberTipline report originating from the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC).

Through diligent investigation, including the service of multiple judicially authorized search warrants, HTCU Detectives identified Schiopu as the suspect. Detectives learned that Schiopu was employed as a paraprofessional aide at a local nonprofit school and worked directly with children and adults with autism. To protect these vulnerable community members, detectives acted quickly, and Schiopu was arrested the following morning on October 1, 2026. That same day, multiple judicially authorized search warrants were served, and detectives located evidence leading them to believe there may be an additional unidentified minor who may have been victimized by Schiopu.

Anyone with information concerning Stefan Schiopu or information that may assist investigators is asked to contact Detective Aaron Cuddeback with the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office High-Tech Crimes Unit at 530-642-4724.

Schiopu is currently being held without bail after being arrested and booked on multiple felony charges. The El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office reminds the public that an arrest is not a conviction. Schiopu is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
